The motorcycle industry in South Africa has always been active, predominantly by the white community in suburbs and luxury living. Motorbikes have since been seen more in townships - not only one or two, but whole biking clubs and crews have sprung up in the townships, hoods, ghettos of South Africa.
In this video, we take a look at the first motor bike school in the South Western Townships, Soweto Motorbike School (or SMS for short). The company was established in 2008, and within 5 years, over 1000 people had been trained in this institution. We meet the owner of the company, King Donut, a rider himself, as well as the founder of SMS Forum. He gives us insight into why this company had to be - and why in the townships.
After the talks, we see SbudaPaloni getting a motorbike lesson from King Donut. He didn’t do all that bad considering it was his first time gripping the handle bars and being in total control of the bike. Perhaps praise should go to King Donut for making Sbuda feel comfortable, making him learn quicker. He’s one of the best biking instructors in the country.
