In the final video of our Xinjiang trip, Tash and I head to the Turpan Basin which is known as the driest place in China. Whilst temperatures soar in summer, the temperature also plummets during winter with a yearly average rainfall of 60mm a year. This is due to the harsh desert climate that influences the region.
Firstly, we visited Tuyugou Ancient Village which was an incredible site and place to explore. After this, we visited the Emin Minaret in Turpan city which is full of history. The next day we explored the Ancient Jiaohe Ruins and we had a blast seeing the remains of the ancient civilisation. Finally, we looked at Turpan's Karez river system. This crucial system sustained the population and was vital for irrigation in the area.
Xinjiang was such an amazing experience for Tash and I. We appreciate the welcoming nature of the Uyghur people and thank them so much for their hospitability. Long may their customs and traditions continue in the future.
