Today I share my thoughts on whether you should get your real estate license or not…

I got my license at the worst time… Houses were a lot cheaper back then, so commissions were significantly smaller for the same amount of work. It was also hard to get clients, buyers and sellers alike. I sold a few houses then, but I was not a great agent. By 2015, I bought and flipped some houses.

Soon after that, I opened my own brokerage. In only four years, I had almost 180 realtors at my brokerage. This year, I decided to move my entire brokerage to Real, so that agents can now go nationwide and have an additional source of income. If you want to keep or get your real estate license, you should be striving to make commissions. If you invest in real estate and want to represent yourself, you can use your commissions and apply it to your deal. Another pro has to do with wholesaling properties. Some states are requiring wholesalers to have their real estate license, so if you plan on starting or continuing wholesaling houses, you will need to have one!

A con of having your license is all the fees you have to pay to get your license and continuing your real estate education over the years. Having your license also holds you to a higher standard when investing, even when you’re not representing anyone.
