On October 1, 2023, in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, officers were dispatched to a local park due to reports of a man urinating in from of a woman and her child. When officers arrived, they spoke briefly to the woman who made the call. She stated the man was wearing an orange-red shit and was under a near by gazebo.
Officers spoke to the man and told him he could not urinate in public, or be drinking alcohol in public. He was told he would be given tickets and that if he could not pay them, he would be taken to jail. He refused a PBT multiple times and officers were forced to take him to the hospital due to his refusal.
At the hospital, officers tried again to get the man to take a PBT to avoid the hospital trip. He refused and was brought inside. The man, identified as Steven, stated he needed to use the restroom. Officers told him he would have to wait, but Steven did not want to wait. He eventually began resisting and was taken to the ground due to his lack of cooperation. He stated multiple times that he didn't know why he was being arrest and that he was not resisting and was in fact calm.
Finally, Steven was seen by a doctor at the hospital and was medically cleared before being taken to jail. His belongings were searched and a package of THC gummies was found.
Steven was charged with 2 counts of resisting or obstructing an officer and possession of THC. He was found guilty of 1 count of resisting or obstructing an officer and sentenced to 60 days in local jail.
