The regular scan protocol is extremely important in finding multiple pregnancies. In some cases, we might not find one, but two or more beating hearts in the female pelvis. This is not only exciting for the parents but also commands the examiner to have a close look if everything is in order. In this video, Patricia Koster, AMS will show you the how to find multiple pregnancies in a pregnancy ultrasound. During early pregnancy, there is a small chance that a twin pregnancy multiple pregnancy can be missed on a pregnancy ultrasound. Patricia Koster, AMS will show you the protocol for detecting twin pregnancy or multiple pregnancy and what to look for in a pregnancy ultrasound. You will learn to count the number of fetuses, count the number of beating hearts, document the chronicity and confirm gestational age of all the foetuses.
In the video, you will see a pregnancy ultrasound that shows triplets. Koster will explain how those foetuses are divided and what the risk factors are. Further, Koster, will explain the examination of the placenta and membranes by pregnancy ultrasound which can sometimes confirm chorionicity. A pregnancy ultrasound scan, usually will check for one or two placentas and the thickness of membranes. Lastly, you will learn what the t-sign and lambda sign look like in a pregnancy ultrasound.
