In this video I am replacing the impeller in my Yamaha 2.5hp 4 stroke outboard motor. During the first run of the season I noticed the tell-tale water jet was not flowing as it should and after cleaning the hole made no difference it was time to replace the impeller. The Yamaha 2.5hp 4 stroke outboard motor has one of the simplest impellers to replace in my opinion with only 4 bolts to undo to remove the gear housing\leg. Then another 4 to remove the impeller housing. The impeller cover also has a hole in it which is handy to check that all the impeller fins are facing the correct way as you rotate the shaft. This is the process I followed but always consult your outboard manual just in case there is a better way of doing this, or in case the process has changed slightly over the years that this model was produced.

The Yamaha 2.5hp outboard motor is a great outboard motor for a small tender or backup engine. I use the outboard as a backup outboard motor to my larger 9.9hp or 15hp outboards and it works well for that purpose. I learnt the hard way (and had to row 3 miles back in) and now for that reason I always take a backup outboard motor. The Yamaha 2.5hp outboard motor is easy to manage as it only weights around 17kg. Incidently I've just purchased an even lighter 2.5hp outboard motor, the Suzuki 2.5hp 4 stroke outboard motor, weighing in at a mere 13kg. So I'll be interested to see how that performs on the water, video to follow soon.
