A 43-year-old man who was sought by police in connection with the murder of a seven-year-old boy near Copesville in Pietermaritzburg has been killed in an act of mob justice.
He was found with multiple stab wounds in an alley in the area on Sunday night. The man was suspected of being responsible for the brutal murder of Lenathi Mkhize.
The little boy was reported missing last Thursday and his body was found with stab wounds in the suspect's home.
Mkhize's family believes he was killed over a debt of R150 rand that his father owed the suspect. The suspect was out on parole.
Police have condemned community members for taking the law into their own hands.
