(23 May 2014) Ukrainian Presidential candidate and former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko vowed on Friday she would do her best to beat frontrunner and billionaire candy-maker Petro Poroshenko in the upcoming presidential election.
Tymoshenko together with Valeriy Konovalyuk and Serhiy Tigipko took part in a televised presidential debate, which was turned down by Poroshenko.
After the debate Tymoshenko expressed her hope in victory in the race for the country's top job.
She also stressed she would "do everything that's possible to overcome political corruption and clans in Ukraine."
Twenty-one candidates are competing to become Ukraine's next leader.
Polls show Poroshenko with a commanding lead, but falling short of the absolute majority needed to win in the first round.
His nearest challenger is Tymoshenko, who is trailing by a significant margin.
Most polls predict a Poroshenko victory in a runoff.
