The Ugly Duckling performed by Art Company: The Blessed
Black Light Puppet Theater for Audiences of All Ages
Video Release: Thursday, September 17, 2020
Based on the famous story by Hans Christian Andersen, The Ugly Duckling starts out with a fairy tale author suffering from writer’s block, desperate to create a character for his new work. All his attempts fail miserably, until a miracle happens! His quill pen slips away and starts drawing by itself, creating a magic world of imagination. The empty balloon of the creator’s thoughts turns into an egg, from which a small duckling shall start his journey into the world. Cheerful and full of expectation, the duckling endures many trials, searching for his place under the sun where he will be cherished and loved. The duckling meets various characters along the way, but they are all repulsed by him for being different. But as each situation becomes unbearable, the feather quill flies to the duckling to direct and encourage him.
Art Company: The Blessed is a performance troupe of artists who want to change and heal the world through art, allowing others to enjoy a life full of joy and contentment. The company explores various topics through family theater to develop well-rounded artistic education programs. The Blessed’s performance of The Ugly Ducking is a magical puppet show for children and adults that is in a style very close to cartoon animation: dynamic and colorful, without dialogue, set to lovely music, in a manner that is both funny and touching. It tells the story of the adventures of a little duckling on his way to finding his place under the sun where he will be welcomed and loved.
