May 25, 2024 - CIF California State Track and Field Finals -
Ventura High School's 4x800m girls relay team dropped the baton on the final handoff, yet junior running sensation Sadie Engelhardt made up the 50m deficit with a 2:06 800m anchor leg for Ventura to win (over Santiago H.S.) in 8:57.203.
If you watch the video closely, the baton is dropped on the final handoff, it then falls to the ground and is inadvertently kicked by Ventura's third leg runner. Sadie reaches back to grab it, and drops it, before finally picking it up for good.
One of the greatest running performances in CIF history.
Sadie's splits were 1:00.64 for first 400m, and 1:05.68 for the second 400m.
Earlier in the day, Sadie won the mile (1600m) in 4:32.05, breaking her CA state record from last year of 4:33.45.
