Will Nikki Haley gain any ground against Donald Trump towards the Republican nomination? Will "no preference" protest votes hurt President Joe Biden's reelection bid? Voters in Massachusetts and more than a dozen other states have had their say in today's Super Tuesday presidential primary elections. Before the polls closed on this Super Tuesday, GBH News heard from voters about the issues that are most important to them and how they factored into their decisions. GBH News' Alexi Cohan and Axios Boston Reporter Mike Deehan joined Crystal Haynes to discuss what they have been hearing.
Then, like the U.S. as a whole, Boston has a long legacy of racism and discrimination, and a pair of new reports dig into the lasting harms still facing Black people in Boston and across the country. Embrace Boston’s “Harm Report” and the National Urban League’s “State of Black America” detail major discrepancies in wealth, housing, infrastructure, education and criminal justice, which illustrate – as the Urban League explains – “the fight for equality is far from over.” To discuss it all, Crystal was joined by Imari Paris Jeffries, President and CEO of Embrace Boston, Rahsaan Hall, President and CEO of the Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts, and Nicole Obi, President and CEO of the Black Economic Council of Massachusetts.
A new state task force convened by Gov. Maura Healey is charged with finding new ways to fund the MBTA, as the cost to repair the transit system rises. What's on the table for new sources of funding and could riders end up footing the bill? GBH News transportation reporter Bob Seay joins to discuss.
Editor’s note: In the interview, we misstated Imari Paris Jeffries’ title with Embrace Boston. We regret the error.
