Since mid-2019, loads have left Burnie at 3am each day, headed through the incredibly wild and mountainous west coast region to a new wind-farm construction site at Granville Harbour, on the coast.
The highly skilled drivers have to edge loads up to 70 metres long around hairpin corners.
These wind farm truckers have to be right on their game. Burnie reporter, Rick Eaves, followed a load along its wildly beautiful but challenging route and asked driver Glen Waters about the technology and skills required to make it possible. So there are 93 of these blade-loads along with more than 400 other loads required to construct that wind-farm at Granville Harbour – and all must be guided through the numerous mountain passes along the way. It is hoped construction might near completion by mid-2020.
