In September 2015, Barry noticed blood in his urine. He was losing weight for a couple of months, but was contributing it to a successful diet. Later that week, doctors saw a 12-centimeter tumor in
Barry’s left kidney in a CT scan. Barry had a consult with Dr. Kutikov where he was well informed of treatment options and how the tumor was affecting his body. Within two weeks of being diagnosed with Stage 4 kidney cancer, he was in the operating room. The three months of recovery were tough, but Dr. Geynisman reviewed what was going on in his body, and looked for the best treatment option. After Barry went through chemotherapy, he started a clinical trial by taking an experimental drug called Keytruda, which is an IBO inhibitor. He continues to take the medication through October 2018. Barry enjoys playing golf and spending time with his grandson.
