A new paper led by researchers from QIMR Berghofer paves the way for more specific public health information to provide a better balance between the harms and benefits of sun exposure in Australia.
The paper, which has been published in the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Public Health, acknowledges that sun exposure is both harmful and beneficial to our health but that the risks are not the same for everyone. It presents more detailed recommendations to help Australians find the right balance for their specific skin type.
The position statement was developed by leading experts and organisations who came together at a Sun Exposure Summit convened by the Australian Skin and Skin Cancer Research Centre (ASSC), which is a collaboration between QIMR Berghofer and The University of Queensland (UQ).
