The National Debt Clock is a billboard-sized running total dot-matrix display which constantly updates to show the current United States gross national debt and each American family's share of the debt.
The U.S. national debt is the sum of all outstanding debt owed by the Federal Government, and is now more than $16 trillion. Nearly two-thirds is public debt which is owed to the people, businesses and foreign governments who bought Treasury bills, notes and bonds.
