Since the beginning of the Syrian conflict in 2011, millions of people have fled the bloodshed into neighboring countries.
The crisis has seen the largest movement of refugees since World War 2.
Jordan and Lebanon have shouldered the brunt of the exodus. In both countries, the majority of refugees are not in formal camps, but live in local communities in the poorest of areas.
With the generous support of donors, the United Nations Development Programme is working with partners to help alleviate the pressure. UNDP supported programmes are also addressing unemployment in host communities as well as helping Syrian refugees.
With no peaceful resolution in sight, continued support to host countries is crucial.
