PLUGGED IN is pleased to be hosting a 4 part series on peritoneal dialysis.
In part 3 of this series you'll meet Nephrologist Dr. Marianne (Minju) Park who joins us to talk about dialysis as a treatment for kidney patients, the various types of dialysis available to kidney patients as well as factors a kidney patient may take into account in deciding which form of dialysis is best suited for their needs.
There are two types of dialysis namely Hemodialysis and Peritoneal Dialysis (PD). Hemodialysis is can be done either in a hospital/clinic setting or at home. It is intermittent dialysis and one dialysis "run" takes approximately 4 hours. On average dialysis patients dialyze between 3- 4 times per week. Peritoneal dialysis For patients considering doing PD at home lifestyle is often a consideration as it allows for a more flexible schedule.
This interview with Dr. Park breaks down the A,B,C's of Peritoneal Dialysis and covers everything you may want to know about PD, so make sure to check it out!
