The Prince of Wales has received some sad family news just days after Prince Harry's full book The Reserves was leaked. The latest update revealed that Prince William's godfather, King Constantine II, remains in a critical condition after suffering a stroke. The 82-year-old man spent several days in the intensive care unit, the Greek newspaper Kathimerini reported. King Constantine, who is also a cousin of the late Prince Philip, is currently in a private hospital surrounded by his immediate family, including his wife of 58 years, Queen Anne-Marie, and their children. It is also understood that his sisters Queen Sofia and Princess Irene of Spain have also arrived in Greece. Although Prince William has an extremely close relationship with his godfather, he has yet to comment on the heartbreaking news. William was often photographed laughing and joking with King Constantine and shared many happy moments with the royal, who lived in London with his wife and children before moving to Portocelli. He is known as the last king of Greece from 6 March 1964 until the abolition of the Greek monarchy on 1 June 1973. As recently as August 1990, the couple were pictured on holiday in Majorca with Princess Diana, Prince Harry and King Charles III, as well as Constantine's wife and children.
In fact, Prince William is now godfather to King Constantine's grandson Constantine Alexios. He is the eldest son of Crown Prince Pavlos and Crown Princess Maria Chantal.
Concerns about King Constantine's health have grown in the months since it was initially announced that he would not be able to attend Queen Elizabeth II's funeral. In his place are Queen Anne-Marie, Crown Prince Pavlos and Princess Marie-Chantal representing the family.
King Constantine was reportedly hospitalized with Covid-19 in January, but was released before suffering a stroke.
