The Continental Airlines Arena, East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Song written by Bruce Springsteen and released on his 2005 album Devils & Dust. Performed during Springsteen's post-album release acoustic tour on each and every tour date, 72 times specifically. In this case, the version I present to you belongs to the May 19 concert at The Continental Airlines Arena, East Rutherford, New Jersey.
With these words Springsteen introduced the song .... "I was raised as a Catholic but I decided to abandon it when I was about 13 years old, I felt that I had enough and I told my parents that I did not want to go to a Catholic school, I said 'No, I did not It matters, you know, what you do to me, I can't stand it 'so they sent me to catechism classes and then ... to see what happened, oh yeah, everyone went crazy, it was a Monday night and I went there for a while and Later, my mother forgot about it, ´Oops, I forgot´ and I got rid of all that but it was like Al Pacino's dialogue in The Godfather III, ´I try to get rid of it but they catch me again´ the same thing happened with 'Them', which in my case is not that they were the mafia but my relatives and uncles and aunts, who took me to church because there were confirmations or something else in the family and afterwards they always tried to make me do the communion that is not supposed to what to do if you haven't confessed and done your act of contrition, so I went through all that con Although today I don't feel very contrite, as I tell them, but, if that doesn't work, I tell them that I am divorced and that in fact means that you are excommunicated ... I think they should review that law because they are excluding to a lot of people who might put money in the basket and that's bad business .... if you're divorced, you can't attend the show! It's a bad business ... I don't know who invented it but in the end all of this was reflected in my songs and of course they are full of religious imagery and it has been a good source of poetry and a great help to escape the true terror of my childhood. ... anyway, I wrote many songs about parents and children, and I wrote this trying to imagine Jesus as someone's child, once you have your own children, someone's child or your children, they have their own destiny that they show you from a very early age and you also think 'Hell, I'll have to follow the same path as this unhappy ... wherever I go, I'll go too ´ so, thinking about all that, this is a song titled ´ Jesus Was an Only Son´ ....
