Such citizens have got some relief after the Delhi High Court decided that "end of life" cars, which were seized, can be released if their owners guarantee not to use them on the roads. The owners must also guarantee that these vehicles will either stay parked on private property or be taken out of the city. This judgment followed a petition by several people who opposed the Delhi government's practice of confiscating internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles that are more than 15 years old for petrol and a decade old for diesel.
