A student with Tourette’s syndrome took the calming concept of ASMR and let rip her foul-mouthed tics in a hilariously ironic video.
The calming and relaxing effect of ASMR videos has taken the internet by storm, with many people all over the world using the videos as a way to ease the anxieties and stresses of their everyday lives.
Tourette’s suffering student, Ryleigh Hawkins, 18, had another idea when she attempted her very own ASMR video from her home in Pleasant Point, New Zealand.
Instead of a quiet, calming video of whispering into the sensitive microphone, Ryleigh let her Tourette's tics run wild by shouting out inappropriate profanities and smacking the mic with her hand.
Ryleigh said: “ASMR is a trend on YouTube that involves whispering and being very quiet, which isn't easy for someone with Tourette’s.
“Personally, I'm not a big fan of ASMR, I did the video because it was heavily requested, otherwise I definitely wouldn't have done it.”
Though ASMR and Tourette's don’t necessarily mix, Ryleigh isn’t afraid of putting herself out there in hilarious and inspirational videos for everyone to see.
Ryleigh said: “As I have gotten older the severity of my tics has decreased but I still find some things difficult such as carrying things that I might throw or yelling out embarrassing things in public.
“I definitely have embarrassed myself with my Tourette's, but there is nothing I can do, so I just get over it and carry on.
“When life throws you a curve ball you can choose to let it consume you or take power back over your life and use it and turn it into something good.”
