I might have discovered a reason why commodity green coffee is so hard to grow: Caffeine allelopathy.

▾ Coffea arabica seed germination protocol ▾
► soak in 40°C water for 4 hours
► wash with soapy water
► disinfect with 70% ethanol for 4 minutes
► disinfect with 25% household bleach for 45 minutes (not 30)
► rinse with sterile water 3x
► leach in a large amount of water for 3 days at 27°C
► exchange soaking water daily
► sow on filter paper in petri dishes with 1-2 cm space between seeds
► incubate at 25-27°C with light for up to 90 days
► examine daily to remove any infected seeds
