The story takes place after the sisters contact a friend of the slayer to come and help them cast a dark spell to bring Paige back.
After the elders find out that the charmed ones "had the nerves" to change their destiny, they call Prue to orb on the Golden Gate Bridge and decide to punish her by stripping her from her elder wings.
The Charmed ones' first cross-over was on season 4 where they first meet Buffy when she and Phoebe accidentaly switched powers.
