In 2017, the Trump administration officially recognised Jerusalem as Israel's capital. In March 2019, the White House recognised Israel's 1981 annexation of the Golan Heights. Now, on Monday, the US Secretary of State announced that Washington was effectively supporting Israel's right to construct Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank by turning its back on its 40-year-old position that such settlements were inconsistent with International law. One Palestinian official has describe the decision as another blow to justice and peace in the region. France 24's Clement Bonnerot reports.
