Vintage Fairy Tales: The Fisherman and His Wife by The Brothers Grimm (Children's Audiobook)
In this story, a fisherman catches an enchanted flounder, who his wife convinces him can grant them a wish. She persuades him to ask the flounder for a lovely cottage, which he grants. However, she soon becomes dissatisfied and forces her husband to ask the flounder for a stone castle instead. The meek husband does her bidding once again and returns to the flounder. The flounder grants this second wish, and the husband finds his home transformed into a castle. The next morning, the wife decides she would be much happier if she could reign her estate as king, which the flounder also grants her. Still not satisfied, she demands to be Emporer and then Pope. Finally, after contemplating the next step higher than Pope, she concludes she will not be happy unless she is Lord of the Universe. The flounder grants her a final wish, but not to be Lord of the Universe, but to return back to the wretched hovel the fisherman and his wife lived in before catching the flounder.
