We were honored to have H.E. Ambassador Paula Ganly, Ambassador of Australia to the Republic of Iraq with us on the occasion of the Seventh Annual Commemoration of the #YazidiGenocide.
Her Excellency shared her thoughts:
"Our support to Yazidis in Iraq has been complimented by resettlement programs. Between 2015 and 2021, another 5,700 Yazidis, pre-dominantly located in Iraq and Turkey, were resettled through Australia Offshore Humanitarian Program.”
"Recognizing the complex needs of Yazidis, Australia provides significant settlement services on arrival, including English language training, psycho-social support, financial support, healthcare, vocational training and education."
Speech transcripts are available in the English and Arabic languages on the Yazda website, featuring the chronic challenges and crucial actions that need to be urgently addressed and facilitated, for the return of Yazidis to Sinjar.
The Seventh annual commemoration of the #YazidiGenocide was held under the patronage of of His Excellency Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al Kadhimi. The two-day commemoration took place on Zoom on August 2-3, 2021 and was hosted by Yazda in partnership with The Zovighian Partnership.
