Palmar erythema: This is a reddening of the palms, particularly at the base of the thumb and little finger, caused by increased blood flow to the area. It is commonly associated with liver disease.
Dupuytren's contracture: This condition involves thickening and tightening of the tissue beneath the skin of the palm, leading to fingers being pulled into a bent position. While it is not exclusively linked to liver disease, it has been found more commonly in people with liver problems, particularly those related to alcohol consumption.
Asterixis: Also known as "liver flap," asterixis is a hand tremor that occurs when the wrist is extended. It is a sign of a metabolic disorder, which can be associated with liver disease.
Yellowing of the skin (jaundice): Liver disease can cause a build-up of bilirubin in the blood, leading to yellowing of the skin and the whites of the eyes. This yellowing may also be noticeable on the hands.
