DO ANYTHING, The Five Keys, (Capitol #3830) 1957
Flipside: IT’S A CRYING SHAME – Here is another really great unknown ballad from my music collection. The Five Keys hailed from Newport News, Virginia. They began recording in 1951 for Aladdin Records and have recorded for many different record labels through the years.
Group members singing on “DO ANYTHING” are Rudy West (lead), Ripley Ingram (1st tenor), Maryland Pierce (2nd tenor), Ramon Loper (baritone) and Rudy West’s brother, Bernie West (bass).
The Five Keys are a legendary vocal group known by all collectors who follow this music. In my opinion, Rudy West and The Five Keys are the epitome of all vocal groups! It is really hard to imagine with all of the great songs The Five Keys have recorded, only 4 of their songs charted nationally on Billboard.
Their biggest was “OUT OF SIGHT OUT OF MIND.” It charted October 1956 for 15 weeks and reached #23. “OUT OF SIGHT OUT OF MIND” was written by iconic singer-songwriter, the late great “Ivory Joe Hunter.”
“DO ANYTHING” was written by Ivory Joe Hunter and Clyde Otis.
I’m dedicating this upload of “DO ANYTHING” to a very dear and close friend, Lou Costello. The Five Keys are one of his favorite singing groups. Lou is on the air (WVLT radio 92.1 FM - Vineland, NJ) weekdays Monday through Friday 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. One of the highlights of his daytime show is “Music History.”
Lou also has his very popular Wednesday Night radio show, “The Doowop Diner” which airs 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM and specializes in the history of “Doowop Music”. It’s a “GREAT” show that I’m happy to be involved with. Click on this link to listen, [ Ссылка ]
