I took a bus from Mexico City to explore the ancient ruins of the pyramids of Teotihuacan! This UNESCO World Heritage Site is absolutely massive and contains the enormous Pyramid of the Sun, one of the largest pyramids in the world. My personal favourite was the Pyramid of the Moon! I climbed the very steep steps to get a view from the top that looks out over the whole complex and straight down the Avenue of the Dead. These pyramids remain largely a mystery and exactly who built them is open to discussion. Whoever built them, however, was at least one thousand years before the Aztecs! They left behind some incredible ruins for us to look at in wonder. If you're planning a trip, you can take a short (one hour) bus ride from Mexico City for 100 pesos return. There is no shade so I'd bring a hat or umbrella, sunscreen, water, snacks, and comfortable walking shoes as the ground is very uneven and you'll want to be able to climb.
