Phillip Sear plays a 'Zither Serenade' by the German composer Theodor Oesten (1813-70).
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Theodor (or Theodore) Oesten (1813-70) was a German composer, pianist and teacher, who was born, studied and worked in Berlin. As well as piano, he was also proficient on the clarinet and other wind and stringed instruments. He became famous for his salon pieces - many of them educational - but also wrote symphonies and choral music. The date shown on the title screen is wrong - I'm sure he wrote this piece before he died - my mistake! Actually I think that Carl Bohm's piece with the same title, which I played in 2008 ( [ Ссылка ] ) is more evocative of the zither than this piece, but Oesten's music seems to remain very popular, and this piece has its charms. My thumbnail shows a detail from 'The Zither Player' (1879) by the German artist Hugo Wilhelm Kauffmann (1844–1915). Actually, in this painting the titular zither player is rather in the background, although he is in the centre of the group.
