When genes or DNA present in cytoplasm are incorporated in the process of inheritance then it is said to as Cytoplasmic inheritance. In this case Mitochondrial DNA and their role in the process of inheritance in Saccharomyces cerevisiae i.e yeast is discussed. As mitochondria are present in the cell cytoplasm, it is known as cytoplasmic inheritance.
