Israeli far-right politician and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has threatened to bring down the government if it accepts an Egyptian-mediated deal to release hostages held by Hamas in Gaza, describing it as a “humiliating surrender.”

Smotrich demanded an immediate assault on Rafah as an alternative to negotiation, claiming that the deal would betray the memories of Israeli soldiers and pose an existential threat to Israel.
