The East African Federation is currently in the process of being formed. They have some success and could possibly become a new country soon!

This is not the only time the countries of Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda, tried to unite. After their independence from the British in 1960, all of these countries tried to unify. They almost succeeded, with Tanganyika and Zanzibar uniting to form Tanzania.
