We were really enjoying the Superstition Mountains but was a bit stifled by the lack of internet up on Peralta road so we found some boondocking on the west side of the Superstitions next to Lost Dutchman State Park. The boondocking here was a parking area off of highway 88/North Apache trail mainly used by horsemen during the day and a number of RV's can also squeeze into this hilly lot. Fortunately we too could use the horse trails which led right into Lost Dutchman state park and many beautiful trails into the Superstition mountains. Arizona state park trails are dog friendly which was a bonus.
There is much to do near the Superstition mountains. Two wild west ghost towns exist in the area. Tortilla Flats and Goldfield. Both offer restaurants, shopping, and an old time shoot out. The drive to Tortilla Flats passes Canyon Lake, a beautiful man made lake that meanders among towering cliffs with Saguaro Cactus.
We were fortunate to get to spend some time here with a couple of our Xscaper friends Rusty and LIz, and Bob and his faithful dog Sasha. Continuing the dog walk traditions. There is so much to do in the Superstition/Apache Junction area of Arizona. Close to many amenities and also close to peace and quiet.
