In this video, we delve into a detailed account left to us by Thucydides on his history of the Peloponnesian war. Here he covers the prelude to the Battle of Mantinea of 418 BC where Sparta and its allies defeated an army led by Argos and Athens. He goes into detail about the Spartan and Athenian armies, their composition, size, and even the speeches each side motivated their me with before engaging in the battle.
In my next video I will cover his account of the battle itself.
