Our bodies are full of wisdom which is beyond the spoken word. This wisdom can reveal itself in many ways, but my particular method of tapping into and sharing wisdom is through artmaking, spontaneous movement and sound. This process is demonstrated in the ArtLight performance, where I create an environment comprised of my abstract, colorful, energy artwork -- which has been spontaneously created through this same body wisdom -- projected onto a large white background. Captivating global music is played. I then step into the environment clothed in a white, flowing costume which also becomes a projection screen that receives the artwork images. Moving from the same inner wisdom with which the artwork was created, my body sometimes blends into the colorful environment as I move. Other times, interesting shadows are created. The result is a mysterious, beautiful and sometimes emotionally moving experience for the viewers. They can actually experience the peaceful energy brought through my body as a result of the movement and the projected art images. ArtLight also has the ability to affect the energy of the space in which it is performed, making it feel calmer, more peaceful and more welcoming. This spontaneous movement is similar to Tai Chi, and other martial art forms which are designed to cultivate energy and a sense of peace. Energy artist Jancy Pettit was introduced in midlife to a meditative martial arts form call Qigong which transformed her approach to artmaking. She harnesses the energy from the Qigong movement and directs it into her art. This universal energy, called “chi,” moves her body in a spontaneous, free-flowing way to create images with no preplanning or preconceived ideas. The resulting mixed media pieces are nonfigurative, colorful and playful. They invoke feelings of peace, vitality and well-being in both the viewer and the spaces they inhabit.
Jancy presents “Spirit of Art” retreats at which attendees experience this meditative movement process for themselves and experiment with a variety of media in a peaceful setting. Nurturing creativity, creating spiritual flow and enjoying artmaking processes are all part of the retreat experience.
To give her energy work a broader platform, Jancy recently published an adult coloring book titled, “Soul Expressions: Coloring for Transformation.” This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at [ Ссылка ]
