In May of 2016, the Emirates Wildlife Society - WWF, the Environment Agency of Abu Dhabi and the Marine Research Foundation set out to place 6 satellite tags on adult green turtles in breeding condition.
"Being able to track a sea turtle from its habitual feeding ground, to a distant nesting ground in another country, and then back again will be among the world’s first ever achievements with the existing technology. And to make things even more exciting, being able to link surgical procedures such as laparoscopy with satellite tracking allows us to understand the intricate nuances of turtle biology and ecology.”
- Dr. Nicolas J. Pilcher, founder and executive director of the Marine Research Foundation.
