STORYLINE
Over 30-thousand people gathered on Wednesday to commemorate the 12th anniversary of the worst carnage in Europe after World War II and bury another 465 identified victims of the 1995 Srebrenica massacre.
Survivors and family members of the victims arrived in cars and buses to the Srebrenica suburb of Potocari where the up to 8-thousand Muslim men and boys were last seen alive, before Serb forces who overran the town on July 11, 1995 separated men from women and executed the men over the following days.
"There cannot be a worse day than this. I have a grandson here who is his son," grieving mother Ajka Redzic told AP Television at her son's grave.
The newly-identified victims, including Ajka Redzic's son, were unearthed recently at the Budak mass grave, where bodies were transferred from the site of the massacre to try to hide traces of the crime, experts say.
A multi-national forensic team, unearthing an 18-meter by 4-metre (60 ft by 13 ft) grave, have been working under a huge air-conditioned tent surrounded by piles of human skulls and bones.
"These are the bodies of the victims of Srebrenica who were trying to escape the Serb forces in July 1995," Murat Hurtic, forensic examiner in charge of the exhumation, told AP Television.
During the war, Srebrenica was officially under United Nations protection, but around 450 Dutch soldiers on peacekeeping duty stood by as thousands of Bosnian Serb forces stormed the area in July 1995.
The International Court of Justice in The Hague declared in February that Bosnian Serb troops committed genocide in Srebrenica.
The main two suspects being sought for the Srebrenica massacre, former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic and his general, Ratko Mladic, were indicted 12 years ago and remain at large.
