Particle counting is an important used oil analysis test for establishing oil cleanliness, which makes it an essential part of improving mechanical reliability - particularly in hydraulic, gear, pump and turbine systems. In this video we examine particle count by ISO 4407 (particle count by optical microscopy) and ISO 11500 (automated particle count by light extinction). Understanding the differences in these two standard laboratory techniques is critical to understanding why particle counts may vary between labs, or even between reports.
Here at Lubrication Expert we take a first-principles approach to lubricants and greases; helping industry understand lubrication technology and pushing the limits of what is possible.
