(10 Jun 2019) A heat wave is spreading across north India with temperatures reaching above 45 degrees Celsius (113 Fahrenheit), according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).
The sun was relentless as people on the streets near India Gate War Memorial in New Delhi desperately looked for water and other ways of protecting themselves from the heat.
51-year-old autorickshaw driver Vijay Kumar said the heat is keeping his customers at home and he is usually idling time.
The demand for ice is soaring as street vendors struggle to keep their drinks cool for demanding customers who only want cold bottles of water and soda.
Others take shelter under shady trees.
Sajid Hussain, a 30-year-old student, says rising temperatures are giving him skin issues and causing a lot of other problems.
According to the IMD, the conditions are set to remain hot in New Delhi and parts of North India through June 12, with some respite coming in on June 13 and 14.
