Curing GERD and Acid Reflux: 8 Common cause of Acid Reflux and GERD. Part 1
The first step to curing your GERD/ Acid reflux is to diagnose what is causing it.
Dr. Waks' compiled a list of the most common causes of Acid Reflux and GERD.
In order to cure GERD you need to understand YOUR cause.
8 most common causes of GERD
1. Not chewing your food and swallowing big pieces. chewing the food is physically changing it, while the mixing of saliva with food triggers chemical reactions and is a chemical change. A physical change may involve a change in the size, shape or state of a substance; however, its chemical composition stays the same. When you chew the food, you activate parasympathetic nervous system. Function of parasympathetic nervous system in the digestive tract is to produce more digestive juices to make food absorbable. As you chew, you will produce HCL, pancreatic juice, bile and mucus.
2. Eating too much. When you eat too much food you physically starching your stomach and LES. Please, see those videos to understand the concept better:

3. Over-stimulation of sympathetic system. the role of sympathetic system in the digestive tract: in general, sympathetic stimulation causes inhibition of gastrointestinal secretion and motor activity, and contraction of gastrointestinal sphincters and blood vessels. It means that you produce less HCL, mucus, pancreatic juices, and bile. Also, less blood supply to the digestive tract. You cannot digest food under those conditions. Your sympathetic system is stimulated when you are watching TV, working or just having and exciting conversation while eating.
4. Under stimulated parasympathetic system. The purpose of parasympathetic nervous system or PSNS is to stimulates the release of saliva to promote digestion. It also enacts peristalsis, or the movement of the stomach and intestines, to digest food as well as release bile for the body to digest fats, pancreatic juices and mucus to protect stomach from the damaging effect of HCL

5. Underproduction of HCL. Common cause of GERD. Reasons are unknow sometimes, but low production of HCL will make food to stay in your stomach for long period of time and some of this food, HCL and pepsin may go up into the esophagus creating GERD, acid reflux, laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR), Silent reflux, Gastroesophageal reflux disease or heartburn. Do the baking soda test.

6. Dilution of HCL. A very common problem. Often people drink a lot of fluid with their meal and dilute HCL, as a result they can not digest food properly and food has to stay in the stomach longer then its allowed physiologically and food may go up in to the esophagus, creating GERD, acid reflux, laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR), Silent reflux, Gastroesophageal reflux disease or heartburn.

7. Underproduction of pancreatic juices/bile. Also, inflammation in the small intestine can contribute to GERD, acid reflux, laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR), Silent reflux, Gastroesophageal reflux disease or heartburn. When person has pancreatic insuffiency or poor quality of bile, or inflammation in the small intestine, then food does not move or moves slow from the stomach to lower parts of GI. That will create congestion and food, HCL and pepsin may go to the esophagus and create GERD.
8. Food sensitivity. Often people have difficulties to tolerate some foods. For example, some people have problem with dairy products, such as milk, cheese, yogurt and butter. Sometimes wheat/gluten is a problem. Those foods may irritate the GI and this will create an inflammation everywhere in the GI, contributing to GERD, acid reflux, laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR), Silent reflux, Gastroesophageal reflux disease or heartburn.
