All through Sunday the Telegraph hosted its annual charity phone-in – and thanks to the generosity of our readers raised thousands of pounds for three very deserving charities
This year the Telegraph made its 25th annual appeal on behalf of three charities – the Abbeyfield Society, which offers people with dementia sheltered accommodation and care homes, Medical Detection Dogs, which trains the animals to detect the smell of human disease, and the Masanga Mentor Ebola Initiative, which educates communities across Africa about infection control.
The Telegraph has made appeals on behalf of good causes for more than a century – 100 years ago, the Christmas appeal raised money for the relief of Belgian civilians who had suffered in the first assaults of autumn 1914.
The generosity of readers in the past has been remarkable – close to £23 million has been raised in the past two and a half decades for more than 70 charities – and has had a truly transformative effect on the lives of those in need.
All through the day a host of Telegraph personalities from Football Correspondent Henry Winter to Film Critic Robbie Collin chatted with readers who were kind enough to donate.
