[WELCOME NEW ABRSM PERCUSSION SYLLABUS]
As the 30-year old ABRSM percussion old syllabus is passing itself onwards to the next generation, to celebrate this wonderful news, we've decided to post videos of one piece per grade from each of the syllabuses, in honour of the passing away of the old syllabus, and the arrival of the new syllabus.
為咗慶祝舊西敲 syllabus 三十年之後終於壽終正寢,我地決定錄影新舊 syllabus 嘅唔同級數嘅歌曲去舊迎新。
[NEW SYLLABUS, GRADE 4]
'Gladius' means 'Sword' in Latin, specifically referring to those used by Ancient Roman foot soldiers. The march-like steady opening depicts the soldiers walking up to battle, and gradually builds up into a fight with the 16th notes, which slowly dies down and ends. The chosen key (C# Minor) with the piece's melodic flow gives it a Medieval atmosphere, which links back to the Ancient Roman setting.
