Have you ever experienced a situation where everything that could go wrong, did go wrong? Maybe you were late for an important meeting, and your car broke down, your phone ran out of battery, and you forgot your documents at home. Or maybe you planned a perfect vacation, and then a storm hit, your flight was canceled, and your hotel was overbooked. If you have, then you have encountered Murphy’s Law.
What is Murphy’s Law?
Murphy’s Law is a principle that states: “If anything can go wrong, it will go wrong, and at the worst possible time”. It is named after Edward A. Murphy, an American air force engineer. Murphy’s Law is often seen as a pessimistic view of life, but it can also help us predict and prevent the worst-case scenarios. For example: an experiment with buttered toast to prove that the toast would always land butter-side down
Murphy’s Law has many variations and extensions, such as:
• If you ignore a problem, it will only get worse.
• Nothing is as simple as it first seems.
• Everything takes longer than you think.
• If there are several things that can go wrong, usually the worst one will happen.
• Nature always sides with the hidden flaw.
