For many glass products , there are related max stress value requirement. If stress in glass exceed this limit , there is a possibility that glass products will explode during the next production process or transportation . Senarmont is a common way to measure Optical Retardation in transparent glass products .
Optical Retardation (nm) = rotating angle * 3.14 .
Stress value(Mpa) = Optical Retardation /( beam length* photoelastic constant ).
(The beam length depends the shape and thickness of the sample.) This special Polariscope provides both Sensitive Color Method ( observing stress distribution ) and Senarmont Method ( detecting max stress value ).
