In this video, Michael from Alarm Grid talks about the Smart Start feature for the Qolsys IQ Panel 2 and Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus Systems. The Smart Start feature allows you to pair a small range of Z-Wave home automation devices with the system by scanning a QR code using the panel's front camera. This QR scanning process is an alternative to the inclusion/exclusion process that is traditionally used to pair Z-Wave devices.
Only a very small selection of Z-Wave devices are compatible with the Smart Start feature at this time. These include certain first-party devices from Qolsys, as well as certain third party Z-Wave devices from Eaton, Alarm.com, and Danalock. Depending on the device, the QR code for scanning may be found on the device itself or on its packaging. Some Z-Wave devices will have the QR code on both the packaging and on the device itself.
It is important to note that the Smart Start feature is only available on Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Systems that are running a Z-Wave Firmware Version of 6.81.03 or higher. If the system has a lower Z-Wave firmware version, then the feature will not be available. You will need to upgrade the Z-Wave firmware to gain access to the feature. The Z-Wave firmware on the IQ Panel 2 is different from the system firmware version. You can check Z-Wave firmware in the About Menu for the system.
Any Qolsys IQ Panel 2 that came with System Firmware Version 2.4.0 installed at the time of production will already have a high enough Z-Wave firmware version and include the Smart Start feature. If your panel had a lower system firmware installed at the time of its manufacture, then you must upgrade the Z-Wave firmware to gain access to the feature, even if you previously upgraded the system firmware to 2.4.0 or higher.
