Ep. 44 LITTLE CHICK MOSAIC, Grouting & Prepping Two different Substrates!
Spring is in the air and I work on the chick. The background is laid in with lots of egg puns- I mean, irridized white glass and frit balls in yellow, spring green and white. Then I flip it over and fill in the back with the same crazy paving style.
Once the Weldbond has dried for 24 hours, I grout the chick and the extra egg with white sanded grout.
I do an evaluation and decide both the chick and the grass will be improved with an acylic paint wash to tint the grout. I add light and dark yellow to the chick to give it more dimension. The grass gets a nice coat of fresh green acrylic paint, which I then wipe off. Once the excess is removed it looks so much better!!! I have to touch up the base to cover up some messy paint. It looks so great with the daffodils!
I decide not to add a D-ring to the back of the egg because it is just the right size for a small plate stand.
Then I head out to my deck to talk about foam core products. I show
1. Wedi Board
2. Hydro Ban Board
3. Go Board
All excellent to use as a substrate for mosaics as they are lightweight and waterproof.
I show how I cut and add hanging hardware. Next, I add mesh to edges and to cover the washer.
Then I turn to my sketchbook to decide on a layout. It is going to be a vertical landscape of my backyard.
I have another substrate, this time cradle board that I have spray painted black. So I add a few pieces of Wedi Board to give it stability. I use Power Grab adhesive to stick it down.
