This TOS-1A Solntsepyok heavy flamethrower system crew are launching strikes at enemy forces that are hidden in hardened shelters within the special military operation areas in Ukraine.
Crews of TOS-1A Solntsepyok systems are from the Nuclear, Biological and Chemical (NBC) Protection Troops of the Central Military District (CMD).
The TOS-1A Solntsepyok systems are considered one of the most powerful conventional armament which provides safety and cover for the special military operation forces and prevents enemy's sabotage action behind lines.
These TOS-1A Solntsepyok crews are supported by special reconnaissance protection groups that do forward reconnaissance in the operation areas and they also escort the Solntsepyok crews in.
Military Ops – Technical Data
These TOS-1A Solntsepyok heavy flamethrower systems, nicknamed, “The Blazing Sun” are equipped with modern launching equipment, improved built-in dynamic protection, a GPS / Glonass navigation system and a new modification of tracks with a straight lug, which has made it possible to increase the comfort of the crew members and reduce the time for completing the assigned combat mission.
The TOS-1A Solntsepyok heavy flamethrower system will, or it has already received modern digital communication facilities, as well as equipment for a closed data transmission segment, which will allow them to be integrated into automatic control systems (ACS) of the tactical level.
In addition, long-range ammunition from TOS-1 will be adapted for TOS-1A and TOS-2A, thereby increasing the range of TOS systems to 15 km instead of the current 6 km.
Further details of the TOS-1A and TOS-2A’s modernisation has not been disclosed.
