Episode #14: Self-Driven Audiovisual Assessments for ALS with David Suendermann-Oeft
Welcome to Stories and Innovations in ALS.
In this episode, Lisa and McFinn are joined by David Suendermann-Oeft, founder and CEO of Modality.a.i. Modality.ai has developed a conversational software program that can be used remotely by anyone with a computing device that produces accurate metrics of facial and speech behaviors that are predictive of neurological diseases like ALS. Modality is paving the way for more efficient, effective, less costly clinical trials.
We will take you through the company’s journey: only six months after kick-off of the large-scale data collection with EverythingALS, the Modality team of PhDs and neurologists at MIT, Massachusetts General Hospital, Johns Hopkins, and other academic institutions published a paper showing strong signals of biomarkers for ALS.This seminal paper was presented at Interspeech 2021, a globally recognized speech conference. David walks us through his journey as CEO and founder of Modality.a.i.
McFinn and Lisa are part of EverythingALS.org, whose mission is to accelerate treatments for ALS through citizen-driven research.
