Manny Pacquiao was back training at Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles on Monday, marking the first time he set foot on Freddie Roach’s boxing facility in a long while.
Although things were a bit different this time, as Roach let Buboy Fernandez hold the coaching reins, the whole team agreed they need to work together while they prepare Pacquiao for his title defense against Adrien Broner.
“We are glad to be back where we first started as a team. I have no problem working with coach Freddie,” Fernandez said in an article posted on Philboxing.com.
“We’re sharing inputs and observations to plug every hole or cover all angles to ensure our victory come January 19.”
Pacquiao, who arrived in Los Angeles on December 22, had not trained at Wild Card since his 2016 fight against Jessie Vargas.
Pacquiao broke ties with Roach following his controversial loss to Jeff Horn last year. Even without his American trainer, Pacquiao knocked out Lucas Matthysse in 7 rounds last July.
The Filipino later mended fences with Roach ahead of his upcoming fight date against Broner. The WBA welterweight title bout will take place at MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
